Extracurricular Activities

Why should students join?
As the United States had changed over time, society has changed too and many influences have been upon the youth of this new generation. Some of the influences are to go to school, graduate and have a good job. In order for the youth to achieve these three goals students need encouragement, social skills and dedication. One way that schools and the community are helping the youth with these skills are with extracurricular activities.
These activities are available everywhere, especially to middle and high school students. There are a lot of benefits that come from joining these activities; the problem is that people don’t know about these benefits. There are many organizations that provide these activities but they don’t emphasize the benefits as they should. Students should join many of these activities which provide positive outcomes.
The first step to do in order for more students to join these activities is telling them the benefits that come from joining these extracurricular activities. I know that people or schools try to tell students to join but as soon as they hear extracurricular activities they think of sports. There are many different activities than just sports. These activities may differ from city to city and communities. These activities should be totally voluntary and have schedule regular meetings and have supervision and guidance from the adult responsible of the activity. Extracurricular activities are anything outside of the normal classroom course. It can include dance, orchestra, band, math and chess club and many more. We should have presentations explaining these benefits.
There are three main benefits that come from these activities and that we can emphasize more. The first reason or benefit on why students should join these activities is because it increases sense of responsibility. In the activities students have regular meetings or games that they have to attend and in order for the student to be a participant in the activity they have to be punctual. These activities also strengthen leadership skills.
This is another reason why they should join. When you are with a group of people you are more out there. You sometimes take that role of being the leader and tell everyone else what to do. You get to communicate with others and you become more social. Another benefit is that it keeps students out of trouble. Students are always so busy in these activities that they do not have time to do anything that they are not suppose to. These three benefits help students in a short term and long term and students should join these activities. We can give more presentations informing people about these benefits. This is where organizations come in.
As a community we can help these organizations get more students join these activities. Organizations like the Boys & Girls club of El Paso have little advertisement. They can have a special day where the youth can go and experienced all the activities without any charge and people would see the good things about these activities. These would help more people join and go to these clubs.
Conclusion
Extracurricular activities had always been around us however; people may not know all the information about these activities. The development of extracurricular activities had provided students from all ages to become involved in them and have something to do. More students should be able to join these activities. With the community stating all the benefits maybe more students would be interested to join.

Self Evaluation-
I think i did good on stating the different things that the community can do in order to help the youth join these extracurricular activities. If I had more time I think I would have do more research on how the clubs that already help with the youth can do in order for more students to join.
